For the third year, the chain of more than 1,100 company-operated and franchised pizza stores said it is teaming with manufacturer Traeger Pellet Grills LLC to demonstrate the “grillability” of the brand’s pizzas that customers cook at home. Papa Murphy’s, which offers users special aluminum grilling trays and preparation instructions, kicked off the 2009 tour Thursday at the chain’s new unit in St. Peters, Mo.

Lindsi Miller, director of corporate communications for franchisor Papa Murphy’s International of Vancouver, said the tour primarily targets new-store openings and this year may be a part of up to 25 such events across the entire system before it concludes in October. She said appearances by the tour team, with its industrial-size Traeger Smoker Grill for preparation of free pizza samples, are being promoted locally via “in-store bouncebacks and press releases.”
