Editor, NRN: I am compelled to respond to J. Marc Mushkin’s letter, “Burgers precooked, frozen elsewhere are QSR ‘secret,’” April 30. Mr. Mushkin claims that our company, Wendy’s, uses frozen patties of ground beef. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Dave Thomas founded Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers restaurants with the promise to serve a better-tasting hamburger. He used fresh—not frozen—beef that was cooked to order, hot off the grill, with the customer’s choice of toppings. Dave called them Hot ‘n Juicy.

We continue to use fresh beef, as we follow Dave’s promise to serve a better-tasting hamburger. We don’t keep hamburgers under heat lamps; in fact, we don’t make a hamburger until the customer orders it.
