MINNEAPOLIS Casual-dining veteran Modesto Alcala will step down as chief operating officer of Buca di Beppo parent Buca Inc. on Jan. 2, the company said today. No reason was given for Alcala’s departure, and no successor was named.

Alcala joined Buca with some fanfare less than two years ago. He had previousy served as president and chief operating officer of Copelands Famous New Orleans restaurant and Bistros, and earlier held management positions at T.G.I. Friday’s parent Carlson Restaurants Worldwide.

“We wish him well in his new ventues,” Buca chairman and chief executive Wally Doolin said in a prepared statement. Buca operates 93 family-style Italian restaurants.
