SPARTANBURG S.C. Denny’s Inc. has promoted April Kelly-Drummond to director of diversity affairs, elevating her from a senior manager position in that department.

With the company since 1994, Kelly-Drummond has held leadership roles in community relations, public affairs and diversity. In her new position, she will serve as the key liaison with major civil rights organizations and build relationships with local, regional and national minority organizations. Additionally, she is charged with overseeing Denny’s national sponsorship of various community service initiatives.

Denny’s officials said in a statement that Drummond has played an integral part of the company’s initiatives benefiting the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the National Urban League, the Hispanic College Fund, the Salvation Army, The King Center in Atlanta and the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tenn.

Denny's, based here, has more than 1,500 namesake restaurants.
