FLORHAM PARK N.J. More than 100 students at Fairleigh Dickinson University are recovering from a norovirus outbreak that hit the campus here Feb. 28.

Adozen students and six members of the faculty and staff were treated for dehydration at area hospitals and released. The norvirus, which is spread person-to-person, is highly contagious and its flu-like symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramping and fever. The duration of the illness can last between 12 and 60 hours, but does not result in long-term health effects.

Cleaning crews were sent to the campus cafeteria and residence halls in an effort to prevent the virus from spreading.

Aspokesman for the university said it is not yet known how the virus spread.

There are about 2,200 undergraduate and 1,500 graduate students on the campus here.
