In June 1967 Burger King unveiled a “bigger ticket item” to its menu — a 60-cent, ham-and-cheese sandwich. Meanwhile, McDonald’s was out promoting its “Fish That Catches People” campaign to boost sales of 30-cent fish sandwiches.

Nation’s Restaurant News reported on both these stories in its June 19, 1967 issue.

“The sandwiches are prepared at the Burger King commissary and freshened at the unit in a modified pressure steamer,” NRN wrote.

Find out more about how the restaurant industry has changed — and how it has stayed the same — as NRN posts highlights from its 50 years of foodservice coverage.

As part of a Throwback Thursday campaign, NRN will share articles, photos and covers dating back to the 60s on Facebook and with the hashtag #NRN50Years on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Share your own Throwback Thursday memories with us using #NRN50years, and your post may be featured on NRN.com. Watch for special NRN anniversary features throughout the year. The celebration will also include a birthday gala at the October MUFSO conference in Dallas.
