NEW YORK Tasti D-Lite, the 44-unit frozen dessert chain, was acquired earlier this month by SPG Partners LLC, a New York private-equity firm, and James Amos, the former chairman and chief executive of Mail Boxes Etc. of San Diego.

Amos, who lives in Franklin, Tenn., has become chief executive of Tasti D-Lite, replacing president Celeste Carlesimo, who founded the company with her father in 1987.

Tasti D-Lite, which is known for its lower-calorie offerings, has 34 retail locations throughout New York City and another 10 retail locations in Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey and Texas.

Gertrude Bakel, marketing director of Tasti D-Lite, said the new ownership has plans to expand the concept. The company will maintain a management presence in New York as well as one in Franklin, Tenn.
