EMERYVILLE Calif. Multi-concept operator Tavistock Restaurants LLC has acquired the single unit Sapporo Restaurant in Scottsdale, Ariz., in a $1.7 million deal that closed Dec. 22, the company said last week.

Known for sushi, teppanyaki and inventive cocktails, the 10-year-old Sapporo was owned by Scottsdale-based Sapporo Restaurant Group, which filed for bankruptcy reorganization in June. The $1.7 million price tag was revealed in court documents.

Bill Bartlett, Tavistock’s chief operating officer, said the fun and interactive teppanyaki and sushi concept fit in well with the company’s portfolio, which also includes the casual-dining Napa Valley Grille, Zed 451, Alcatraz Brewing Co., Blackhawke Café, California Café and Café del Rey brands. The restaurants are located in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Scottsdale.

In 2007, Tavistock also acquired the fast-casual Freebirds World Burrito chain, which now has more than 20 units, primarily in Texas.
