CARPINTERIA Calif. Hardee’s has added another meaty item to its menu with the debut of the Double Sausage Egg 'n' Cheese Biscuit.

The new breakfast sandwich includes a folded egg, two sausage patties and two slices of American cheese on a buttermilk biscuit. It's available at participating stores for $2.39 each or as part of a $4.09 combo with Hash Rounds and a drink.

"Our Sausage and Egg Biscuit has been a staple item on the breakfast menu for years," said Brad Haley, executive vice president of marketing for the 1,913-unit Hardee's. "The only way to improve a classic was to make it twice as meaty, and therefore, twice as delicious."

Hardee's and sister brand Carl's Jr. are known for their more indulgent menu items, such as Thickburgers and Six Dollar Burgers, respectively.

Both brands are owned by Carpinteria-based CKE Restaurants Inc.
