The Wendy’s Co. is introducing a new Italian Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich and garlic fries to its winter menu, the company said Wednesday.

The Dublin, Ohio-based quick-service brand joins a growing number of quick-service brands offering new twists this week on the chicken sandwich staple, including a Burger King Italian version Introduced on Monday and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen blackened chicken sandwich introduced on Tuesday.

Wendy’s Italian Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich features fried mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce and aged Asiago cheese on a garlic-knot bun. The same condiments are offered in a beef version as well.

The Italian Mozzarella sandwich can be paired with garlic fries, which feature a garlic-herb sauce.

“Products like the Italian Mozzarella Duo are new but were tested for months to guarantee that our fans would really enjoy them, making it an approachable flavor adventure,” said John Li, Wendy’s vice president of culinary innovation, during a webinar last week.

Earlier this week, Wendy’s debuted its new Peppermint Frosty flavor for the holidays, which replaces vanilla for the duration of the limited-time offer.

Wendy’s, founded in 1969, has more about 7,000 restaurants worldwide.
