Red Robin’s chief marketing officer Kevin Mayer has departed the company. In a filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission Tuesday, the company reported that no severance agreement is in place at this time and such an agreement will be amended.

No reasons were given regarding Mayer’s departure, nor were there any details about an interim replacement.

Mayer joined Red Robin in May 2023, per his LinkedIn account, after serving as CMO at Pedego Electric Bikes for about six months. He spent nearly eight years at BJ’s Restaurants, starting as CMO and moving into the chief growth and brand officer role in 2021. Mayer also has marketing experience at Volkswagen of American, General Motors, Subaru, and more.

In 2024, he was named to Nation’s Restaurant News’ Power List for helping to facilitate the chain’s five-point “North Star” turnaround plan. Red Robin has since revamped its loyalty program, targeted younger consumers through influencer campaigns, and doubled down on its local marketing efforts.

"Kevin Mayer has departed Red Robin to pursue other opportunities. During his tenure, Kevin played a key role leading the marketing team and supporting the North Star Plan. We thank Kevin for his contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors," a Red Robin spokesperson said.

The chain’s preliminary fourth quarter results showed a same-store sales increase of 3.4%, indicating that the plan is gaining traction after a sluggish 2024.
