Darden delivers, Cracker Barrel reports, Taco Bell gets cheesy again

Olive Garden is launching on-demand delivery with Uber, ending its long opposition to delivery services. Starting with a pilot later this year, customers will be able to order delivery on Olive Garden’s website and app, with Uber Eats drivers fulfilling the orders.

The leading proponent of eliminating the federal tip credit had her credentials and the justification for her cause pointedly challenged yesterday during a hearing before the U.S. House of Representatives on whether to end the payroll benefit for restaurants.

Also, Olive Garden reported that same-store sales declined this summer for the third consecutive quarter. They were down nearly 3% year over year, and traffic fell more than 5%

MOD Pizza rolled out new tiered pricing options earlier this week in its latest move under new owner Elite Restaurant Group. Long known for its One price, Unlimited Topping philosophy, guests can still choose that option, but pricing has been tweaked and now guests can order a one-topping pie for a lower price, as well as a plain cheese pie as the lowest price option.

Cracker Barrel is making progress on its transformation plan.

Taco Bell is already bringing back its Big Cheez-It offerings, first introduced in June and featuring a Cheez-It cracker that is 16 times larger than a standard cracker.
