Taco Bell Corp. is experiencing a shortage of flour tortillas that is forcing dozens of restaurants in various markets to turn away customers asking for menu staples such as burritos and quesadillas.

“While some Taco Bell restaurants are experiencing supplier shortages, we are working diligently to replenish the supply of our tortillas (used for products like quesadillas and burritos) in those restaurants,” the Irvine, Calif.-based chain told Nation’s Restaurant News in a statement.

The company, a division of Louisville, Ky.-based Yum Brands Inc., did not disclose the regions impacted or the number of stores experiencing shortages. Various reports in local markets have described shortages in Huntsville, Ala., and New York.

On the Taco Bell app, customers ordering Wednesday from select locations in New York City, Philadelphia, Louisville, Ky., and Nashville were informed that chicken quesadillas, bean burritos and Quesaritos were not available.

The in-app message was: “Sorry! Some of the items in your cart not available at this time. Please try again later.”

Taco Bell encouraged customers to order other menu items such as the Power Menu Bowl or Cheesy Gordita Crunch. The brand did not say how long it will take before it resolves the shortage.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause and appreciate our customers’ patience,” the company said.
