Wendy's has expanded its virtual Wendyverse with Meta's Horizon Worlds by adding Sunrise City. The Wendy's Co.

The Wendy’s Co. has expanded its Wendyverse virtual reality offerings on Meta’s Horizon Worlds with a breakfast realm, the company said Wednesday.

The Dublin, Ohio-based burger brand, which launched its virtual Wendyverse launch in April, added Sunrise City to the game platform.

Wendy’s customers with a Quest 2 can explore the three-dimensional world on the virtual reality platform, which includes a breakfast-themed obstacle course.

The Sunrise City expansion includes a castle to be breached, bacon bridges and flying biscuits. Participants can paraglide on a breakfast potato, joust on a tightrope and toss biscuits.

The virtual reality Wendyverse hub offers a portal to Sunrise City, or users can search directly for the experience in Horizon Worlds.

As part of the expansion, Wendy’s is offering a free breakfast sandwich through its smartphone app with a purchase through June 30 or it can be claimed online at wendyverse.com.

Carl Loredo, Wendy’s chief marketing officer, wrote a recent Meta blog post with tips on using the metaverse.

“It can be tough to balance brand objectives and consumer interests,” Loredo said, “At Wendy’s, we strive to create branded entertainment—so every branded touchpoint serves the consumer first by enhancing the experience, rather than distracting or detracting from it.

“In the metaverse, you can’t just slap a logo on something and call it a day,” Loredo wrote. “You need to give consumers an immersive opportunity to interact with the brand, so they want to come back for more.”

The Wendyverse is open to those Meta Horizon Worlds users 18 and older in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The company offered these tips to access Sunrise City:

  • Turn over your left wrist and select the three-line icon from the Personal Menu, and then select the pin icon (toward the bottom)

  • Select the magnifying glass icon (in the upper right-hand corner)

  • Use the virtual keyboard to search for “Wendyverse”

  • Click the picture to travel to the hub world and find portals to Sunrise City and the previously released Buck Biscuit Dome.

Wendy's, founded in 1969, has about 7,000 restaurants worldwide.
