David Stidham has resigned as chief marketing officer of Culver’s Franchise System Inc., the company said Wednesday.

Stidham had been with Culver’s since 2009. The company said that he resigned “for an opportunity in private enterprise.” Culver’s said it would start a nationwide search for his replacement.

Based in Prairie du Sac, Wis., Culver’s has more than 500 locations, mostly in the Midwest, and mostly owned by franchisees.

The company had $1.2 billion in systemwide sales last year, and was the 46th largest restaurant chain in the country, according to Nation’s Restaurant News’ Top 100 data.
