The board of directors of Flowers Foods elected Allen L. Shiver president and chief executive, effective May 22. Shiver has been with the company for 33 years and has held the title of president since 2010.

In addition, Flowers Foods said George E. Deese, the current chairman and CEO, was elected executive chairman, also effective May 22.

Flowers Foods also completed the acquisition of the perpetual, exclusive and royalty-free licenses to the Sara Lee and EarthGrains brands for sliced breads, buns and rolls in the state of California from Bimbo Bakeries USA, a subsidiary of Grupo Bimbo SAB de C.V. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
