Panera layoffs, casual-dining value, Chipotle in Dubai

Panera is undertaking its second round of corporate layoffs in less than a year. The JAB Holding-owned brand said that the corporate restructuring is part of an ongoing operations simplification strategy.

Consumers say casual-dining chains have overtaken fast food on value. That’s according to new research from data firm YouGov, which shows that casual dining began to open up a large lead on value early this year and hasn’t looked back.

Chipotle is taking on Dubai. The fast-casual Mexican chain opened its first restaurant in the United Arab Emirates with a 6,000-square-foot location in the city. Alshaya Group, which opened two units in Kuwait earlier this year, is operating the restaurant and plans a second one in Dubai in the coming months.

Killer Burger is expanding outside of the Pacific Northwest for the first time since its inception in 2010, and its founder TJ Southard will be the one planting a new flag in Texas next month as a franchisee.
