This week on Nation's Restaurant News we saw a lot of restaurant closures due to the coronavirus pandemic. Quick-service chains such as McDonald's decided to temporarily close 50 restaurants of its nearly 14,000 in the U.S. McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said most of the closed stores were shuttered because they were part of a building or facility that was impacted by the outbreak.

In-N-Out also closed its dining rooms, leaving fans with two ordering options: takeout and drive thru. The chain does not offer delivery.

To meet the demand for pizza delivery, Dominos said it is needs to hire about 10,000 full-time and part-time workers. The company said, "We want to make sure we’re not only feeding people, but also providing opportunity to those who are looking for work at this time.”

Related to coronavirus news, on Tuesday, a coalition of restaurants asked U.S. consumers to participate in The Great American Takeout, encouraging people to order delivery or pickup to help the restaurant industry. The coalition said in a statement: “Because dine-in meals are no longer being served at most restaurants, delivery and pick-up are the only ways to support these struggling businesses.”
